About us

Olive House Mediation – a private and professional mediation practice.

Olive House Mediation is run by Jo Mills, a non-practising Solicitor and trained Mediator. Jo worked as a solicitor within the criminal and family court judiciary for 14 years and has extensive experience of seeing first hand that the Court process can be lengthy, protracted and can negatively affect couples and children both emotionally and financially.

Mediation is more cost effective, quicker, less acrimonious and more child-focused than court proceedings and leads to better outcomes, both in practical terms and emotionally. Mediators are trained professionals who can help couples to communicate better and reach agreement in a safe, confidential and dignified environment, focusing on the future and the best way forward for their family.

Jo has also worked for many years in contentious civil litigation and has used mediation as a method of resolving disputes. She believes in the mediation process to help families communicate better, resolve disputes and reach agreement in a positive and constructive way.

Olive House Mediation puts at the forefront of its practice the four key principles of mediation which are that it is a voluntary, confidential, impartial process in which the parties reach decisions themselves with the mediator using their professional skills to facilitate this.

Family mediation can work in tandem with other professionals such as pension experts, solicitors and therapeutic services, all of which Olive House Mediation has excellent links with.

Jo is a member of the Law Society, Family Mediators Association and the Family Mediation Council and works alongside trained and accredited mediators to provide the best service possible for clients.

How we can help

At Olive House Mediation, we offer a range of services designed to help you and your family through the stresses and strains of divorce and separation, finding positive solutions for all involved.

Family Mediation

A voluntary process, family mediation is a means of helping you and your family to talk through issues in a calm and practical manner. Skilled mediators will help to  guide you past conflict, avoid roadblocks and focus on finding a way forward with everyone’s best interests in mind.

Mediation Assessments (MIAMs)

Attending a MIAM (Mediation Information Assessment Meeting) is a compulsory requirement before court proceedings can begin. MIAMs are designed to help you to be well-informed about the mediation process and whether it is a suitable route towards reaching a mutually-satisfying agreement.
